Building your social influence on LinkedIn is one of the single most powerful ways you can increase awareness of your professional profile.
One of the best ways to grow social influence is to create relevant content with your connections on LinkedIn. But did you know that curating content is just as powerful?
While having your own content is extremely important, you can seriously boost the impact of your activity on LinkedIn by curating content.
Content curating is the process of recommending someone else’s content to others. The big advantage is that you don’t have to produce it, but you are seen as someone who has their finger on the pulse. Here is how to go about doing that on LinkedIn.
Getting noticed is What We’re All Doing on Social Media.
But everyone is already so overwhelmed with information the last thing they need is more emails flooding their inbox. Instead try these three easy steps to position yourself as a Top Influencer in your LinkedIn groups.
#1. Customize your LinkedIn news feeds.
Set LinkedIn to display the most relevant articles from your industry and your personal sources. Follow categories of news that interests your groups and connections the most. Create your own unique mix of content so you always have a unique blend of content available at your LinkedIn fingertips.
#2. Check your LinkedIn news headlines regularly.
Regularity is the key to making the most of all social media and that includes LinkedIn. Curating content doesn’t require you to create it — you are simply recommending content that you suggest to others is relevant and important. Some suggest to do this daily. I don’t see anything wrong with doing this several times a day. Most people stay logged in to LinkedIn or checkin at least 3 times a day.
#3. Do more than share your recommended news.
Sharing is one thing. It is important to keep sharing and to keep commenting if you want to build influence. Check your connections to see what content they are commenting on and what interests them. Monitor the response you get from what you share. Stay in touch with those who comment. Build your sphere of influence.
These steps apply to employers as well as to job seekers. Regardless of what category you find yourself in this creating and curating good content on LinkedIn will go a long way in helping you to improve your personal online brand.
